Matthew Hoh Resignation Letter

By Matthew Hoh

[Printer-Friendly Version]

Below you will find a link to the letter of resignation submitted by former USMC Captain Matthew Hoh when he resigned his State Department position in Afghanistan. Please read it. Then, as you listen to and read of those we have elected as leaders discuss and debate the "Af/Pak War" and of those who are paid to report and comment on those discussions, please bear Mr. Hoh's comments closely in mind.

Finally, consider how the lives of uncountable millions of people in Viet Nam, Laos, Cambodia and in our country would have been fundamentally altered had the almost identical words of Medal of Honor recipient and former USMC Commandant Shoup been attended to by those in power when he spoke them in 1965. General Shoup said back then:

"I don't think," he told his audience then, "the whole of Southeast Asia, as related to the present and future safety and freedom of the people of this country, is worth the life or limb of a single American [and] I believe that if we had and would keep our dirty bloody dollar crooked fingers out of the business of these nations so full of depressed exploited people, they will arrive at a solution of their own design and want, that they fight and work for. And if, unfortunately, their revolution must be of the violent type.at least what they get will be their own and not the American style, which they don't want crammed down their throat."
