I am indebted to TN Ernie Ford for tweaking my curiosity. He taught me, as a 7-year old, something about "the company store," indentured servitude and injustice with his 1955 hit "Sixteen Tons." We can thank his friend and a miner's son, Merle Travis, for those lyrics.
"You load 16 tons, what do you get? Another day older and deeper in debt St. Peter, don't you call me 'cause I can't go I owe my soul to the company store"
It's available on YouTube.
Cheers,
