Getting Out of That Place (poem)

By John Crandell

[Printer-Friendly Version]

I could not make him immortal
      with my words
Had turned on the wooden radio in Hong Kong
BBC announcer said Beatles no more
There went the sun
Days of Future all done passed
Moody Tuesdays in red dust
how the elephant grass made Point Man cuss
An hallucinogenic time warp
we sang and banged those tin cups in unison
Table tops - to The Animals!
at the Enlisted Club, Fort Hood
A jungled Gadda da Vida
had not been his garden of eden
Tây Ninh Province 1970
But I surely brought him back to life

—John Crandell
